Lovers of beer in Atlanta have reason to rejoice this Saturday, as the 10th-annual Beer Carnival once again returns to Atlantic Station. For several years, the festival has been held in the Winter, but the organizers decided to shake it up a bit and make it an early-Spring affair this year, for which us warm weather loving folks at Party Travel Hotspots’ Atlanta Lowdown are quite delighted.

The focus, as always, is certainly the beer, and you can expect a star-studded list of participating breweries offering up their best. Bell’s, Chimay, Goose Island, Innis and Gunn, Lagunitas, Ommegang, Terrapin, and Wild Heaven are just a few of the excellent brands to be represented for 2014. For a full list of participating breweries and beers, please click here.

You can’t have a beer festival without plenty of savory grub to soak up the suds, and that is just what you can expect at the Atlanta Beer Carnival 2014. Mighty Meatballs, Nectar, Ri Ra Irish Pub, Loaded Burger, and The Fry Guy will all be on hand, in addition to other local food favorites.

The festival is not considered a ‘beer carnival’ for no reason, and there will also be fun carnival games on the premises for your enjoyment. For a full list of the games to be offered, please click here.

The beer carnival will take place from 1-5 PM, and advance tickets go for $40-65. If you are enjoying the temperate Spring weather in Atlanta and love great beer, tasty food, and good vibes, you should definitely be at Atlantic Station this Saturday for what promises to be the best ATL Beer Carnival yet.

On Saturday, March 1st, an epic Epicurean event will hit Atlanta’s Atlantic Station, in the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival. The event, which takes place in multiple cities throughout the country, is one of the top festivals for meat and booze in the US and one you will not want to miss if you enjoy the 3 Bs.

You can expect 60 beers, 40 bourbons, and all the scrumptious barbecue you can eat. A souvenir glass and unlimited beer and bourbon tasting comes with the price of admission, and all tents will be heated if the weather gets too nippy. Food is not free, but the ample selection of barbecue, including pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken, sausages, and even whole hogs, will be available at a low price (and we hear servings will be hefty).

There will also be seminars from top distillers, brew-masters, and pit-masters, and live rock, blues, and bluegrass music throughout the festival. Contests such as Atlanta’s Best Beer Belly competition and a Daisy Dukes and Boots contest will also take place on the main stage. There will be hot sauces and barbecue accessories for sale, and even a cigar tent on-site (for those who enjoy the finer things in life).

For more information on the festival and to purchase tickets, please check out the official website for the event, and be sure to drink and eat responsibly!

ATL Collective to Relive Prince’s 1999

What better music with which to celebrate Valentine’s Day than that of the great Purple One himself, Prince, widely known as one of the sexiest artists in the history of popular music. There is none, and that is why there may be no better place to be this Valentine’s Day in the ATL than at Vinyl at Center Stage, as the local all-star group of musicians known as the ATL Collective will be performing Prince’s classic record 1999 from start to finish.

The ATL Collective has made a pleasant habit of performing complete albums at various venues throughout the ATL, and seems to be making a bit of a tradition of Valentine’s Day Prince performances, having last year performed Purple Rain in its entirety at Sound Table’s Space II. We were there for last year’s performance, and you can expect this one to be just as grand, if not more, considering the larger venue and more seasoned ensemble.

Doors will open at 8:00 and the show begins at 9:00, and tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door, meaning you ought to click here and get yours now. You really can’t go wrong when it comes to seeing some of ATL’s top instrumentalist and vocalists performing the music of the great Prince on Valentine’s Day for a mere $10 beans at one of the coolest venues in the city. Don’t miss it, and don’t forget where you got the inside scoop for V-Day in Hotlanta, Party Travel Hotspots’ ATL Lowdown.

Sound Select Presents Rittz and More..

Posted by JGarry | Posted in Music Events, Nightlife | Posted on 30-01-2014

If you are a hip-hop fan or live in the ATL area, Rittz is a name you have probably been hearing of late, as the ATL metro-based rapper has been making quite a buzz for himself over the last few years. Any nightlife-loving city dweller is also likely to be pretty aware of Red Bull Sound Select events, which are generally free or extremely cheap and feature some top-notch local and national entertainment. On Monday, February 20th, Rittz will be performing a Red Bull Sound Select show at the Drunken Unicorn for a mere $3, with support from fellow locals Two-9 and Baby Baby.

If you are not too familiar with the Rittz, you will likely become more familiar soon as he is one of the top up-and-coming rappers in the world. Rittz got his start as a fast-spitting southern rapper associated with Shady Records star Yelawolf, due in part to a prominent appearance on Yela’s acclaimed Trunk Muzik mixtape. He is now signed to popular underground label Strange Music, run by fellow rapid-fire spitter Tech N9ne.

Rounding out the bill are Two-9, an up-and-coming local hip-hop group with songs produced by the likes of popular producer Mike Will Made It, and local party-rockers Baby Baby, making this a multi-genre show with something for the rock and hip-hop sets alike.

For more information on the proceedings and to RSVP for three beans, please click here. We would definitely suggest doing so as soon as possible, as Red Bull Sound Select events tend to fill up quick, and the Drunken Unicorn is a small venue. We have yet to see a Red Bull Sound Select event which did not go down with a bang, and this one promises to be another good one, so we hope to see you there!

Counterpoint Festival Lineup to Include Outkast

Posted by JGarry | Posted in Festivals, Music Events, Nightlife | Posted on 17-01-2014

The Counterpoint Festival is kind of a big deal every year for music loving Georgians, and it just got a whole lot bigger for 2014 as hometown ATL heroes Big Boi and Andre 3000, otherwise known as Outkast, will be headlining the fest for 2014. Outkast had been on a long hiatus since 2006′s Idlewild, and it seemed questionable for some time whether they would ever perform or record again. Fans are to question no more, as the legendary hip-hoppers have reunited for a 40+ festival date reunion run to commemorate their 20th anniversary in 2014. Counterpoint looks like it should be an all the more special show for the group considering their GA roots.

In addition to Outkast, the rest of the EDM and hip-hop oriented lineup is certainly no joke either. Particularly notable acts include Foster the People, Pretty Lights, STS9, J Cole, Flux Pavilion, Janelle Monae, Sleigh Bells, Thievery Corporation, and Run The Jewels. For more information on the complete lineup and to purchase tickets please check out the official website for Counterpoint 2014. It would not surprise us if this year’s festival sells out, and early-bird tickets are already gone, so get them while they last. The festival will take place from April 25 through April 27, in Kingston Downs, Georgia.

January 2014 is upon us, and that means it’s time for the two-day brew-fiend’s extravaganza that is the Atlanta Winter Beer Fest. This year’s event will take place from 1-6 PM on January 25th and 26th at the Masquerade Music Park.

There will be over 300 beers featured at this year’s festival, with East-of-the-Mississipi beers being featured on Saturday and Western US beers being featured on Sunday. All of the rooms in the Masquerade will be used and there will also be outdoor tents (which will be heated if the weather requires). Among the top-notch breweries participating are Ommegang, Rogue, Founders, Boulevard, Bell’s, Allagash, Avery, New Holland and so many more. There will also be plenty of fresh local beers represented, including offerings from breweries such as Wrecking Bar, Max Lagers, Sweetwater, Terrapin, Three Taverns, and Blue Tarp. There will be five stages of live music and plenty of good grub to soak up the suds available as well.

The food and music lineups are soon to be announced via the event’s official website (where you can also purchase tickets in advance), so please check back. It would be wise to purchase your tickets now as they are cheaper than they will be at the door, so we suggest you act now.

If you love great beer and live in the ATL, there is no excuse to miss this great beer celebration. Be sure to drink safely, and have a great time at this year’s festival!

B.O.B. At Smith’s Olde Bar on Xmas Eve

Posted by JGarry | Posted in Holiday Events, Music Events, Nightlife | Posted on 21-12-2013

It is not everyday that you get to see a major rap recording artist of the likes of B.O.B. at a venue as small and intimate as legendary ATL watering hole and music venue Smith’s Olde Bar. That is just what you will get to see on December 24, 2013, as Whynatte is bringing B.O.B. to Smith’s for Christmas Eve for the third time in what has become a bit of an ATL tradition.

Tickets are $50, which is not exactly cheap, but you’ve got to keep in mind that you are seeing a man whose commercial debut single “Nothin’ on You” featuring Bruno Mars is one of the biggest hits of the last five years; a number one smash in the US, UK and Netherlands. This is not even mentioning B.O.B.’s other major hits as well as his credibility in the hip-hop intelligentsia as one of ATL’s top rhyme-slingers.

The Grammy winner will be performing material from his new record, Underground Luxury, which was released on December 17, making this a bit of an ATL album-release party affair. You can also expect to hear older B.O.B. material, most likely including the major pop hits for which he is known.

Past B.O.B. shows at Smith’s are considered almost a thing of legend as very special, intimate moments in ATL music, and we expect this one to be another for the ages. To purchase tickets, please click here.

RAD FEST 2014 Approaches

Posted by JGarry | Posted in Music Events, Nightlife | Posted on 06-12-2013

On January 25th, 2014, Red Bull Sound Select and Creative Loafing will be putting on another exciting music event in the ATL in RAD FEST 2014, going down at popular East Atlanta Village venue the Basement.

The event features a pretty major headliner in Lee Ranaldo and The Dust. Ranaldo is one of the founding members of New York City post-punk legends Sonic Youth, and he will be performing with his new band The Dust in support of their recent psychedelic-tinged release, The Last Night on Earth.

In keeping with the generally psychedelic-oriented theme, supporting acts will include local post-punk-psych-rockers Lyonnais, ATL psychedelic-chamber-music-meisters Faun and a Pan Flute (who recently opened for beloved fusion jazzsters Snarky Puppy at Terminal West), and local favorites deadCAT.

Red Bull Sound Select and Creative Loafing events are always big fun, and this promises to be one for the ages, with some of the top local bands on the more experimental end of the spectrum opening for a true avante-music legend in Ranaldo.

For more details on the event, you will want to click here, where you can also RSVP for only $3. Tickets are $10 at the door, so it is a good idea to go ahead and RSVP now.
